Clip will tell you if there is a new version to install, depending on what version of renault reprog you have… if you do not have reprog, the only way to find out if there is a new version, is to with a diagnostics machine read the actual version installed and then look on Go to http://obd2-diag.blogspot.com/p/renault-can-clip.html to see what’s the latest version available… As for the benefits, new versions are usually released to resolve glitches that have been in the mean time discovered, to improve driveability, fuel consumption etc… also as the engines get worn and old, new software can adjust things to make is driveability a bit better… most of the times you will not see any difference after a software update, unless a real obviously glitch has been identified and a new version has been released to resolve it. It should come on the instructions… Although if I recall correctly, that is not important… you can put numbers from 1 to 7… or all zeros…

My clip is the third one i am going through, and the first thing I do is open them inspect and re-solder all chips . About check if is updates available, I can’t answer with certainty. I check it when the machine is plugged in. Just out of curiosity, I don’t update ECUS just because an update is available, I usually do it if I am convinced that it will resolve a certain problem. Update ECUS is a risky process, which can transform your ecu on a paper weight if something goes wrong….

The programming procedure using clip will be not much more than following the screen… but this for a new hand brake module… A second hand unit should work, however it might need coding, or adjust the configurations… it all depends on the car it came from… Hope that helps…

You can download the Reprog cd… Ensure you don’t have other electrical problems… as if you do this procedure will not resolve your problems…
I have a 2000 ford mustang v6, the motor was replaced with a 2004 mustang motor but they for got to change the ecu chip. now I can’t pass my emissions on the car. What should I do, buy a new ecu for a 2004 or have the old one updated/reprogrammed?
See if can be updated, but might not going to work… because if you use vcm it will recognise the car by the ECU… Unless you change the VIN first… that way it will see the car as a 2004.. another way is do it on the bench… that way you can load a map from a 2004 with no problem… Before all this, make that there is actually no issues with the engine itself… a plug or a pipe not connected can be all it takes to give you problems… Hope that helps.

Not really… the only way is if you have the ECU reset/virginized/ blanked whatever you want to call it… before. Clip can’t reprogram an used ecu.

I am not sure if is possible to check the DVD without actually plug clip and check… The files/structure on the DVD does not give any clues of what files are for… Perhaps some documentation from renault that describes the DVD contents…

Step1. Open Renault CAN Clip software then click the third icon at left side as picture shows:
It will automatically feature out vehicle information. Click “Reprogramming”.
Step2. Choose “Injection” then click “Validate”.
Enter the repairing order then click “Validate”.
Step3. Before ECU reprogramming, you should check battery voltage.
